Pharmaceutical company Pfizer announced it will join forces with President Donald Trump to launch a new government direct-to-consumer drug sales website.

TrumpRx, which is expected to launch at the beginning of next year, will enable patients to purchase Pfizer drugs at a 50% discount on average, according to a news release from the company. It will include a majority of the company’s primary care treatments, as well as some specialty brands.

Pfizer’s involvement in TrumpRx is part of a broader agreement to reduce costs for certain American consumers, as Trump seeks to align drug prices with those in other countries. Furthermore, Pfizer intends to invest in manufacturing within the U.S., granting the company a three-year exemption from Trump’s tariffs on pharmaceutical goods.

On Sept. 25, the president announced a new tariff on brand-name drugs imported to the United States, starting Oct. 1. This 100% tariff does not apply to drug makers who already have or are committed to building production plants in the United States.

Here is what to know about his newest venture in the pharmaceutical industry.

What is TrumpRx?

TrumpRx is a direct-to-consumer

website that allows Americans to purchase medications. A senior White House official informed reporters that the site will enable consumers to search for specific drugs and then redirect them to the manufacturer’s website for purchase, as previously reported by USA TODAY.

Other direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical websites already exist and offer lower drug prices for cash. However, the costs are still higher than those for people using insurance, according to ABC News.

When will TrumpRx be operational?

USA TODAY reported it is expected to be operating by early 2026.

Is TrumpRx.gov live?

According to a statement from Pfizer, TrumpRx.gov will be the website’s domain; however, it currently does not direct users to an active website.

What Pfizer medications will be offered at a discount?

According to a statement from the White House, the agreement will provide every state Medicaid program in the country access to drug prices in line with the lowest paid by other developed nations for Pfizer products. This could benefit 1.5 million Tennessee residents who receive care through the state’s Medicaid program.

The statement also says that Pfizer is required to offer medicines at a discount off the list price when selling directly to American patients. Examples included in the statement are:

Eucrisa, a topical ointment for atopic dermatitis, will be made available at an 80% discount to patients who purchase it directly.

Xeljanz, a widely used oral medication for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ulcerative colitis, will be available at a 40% discount to patients who purchase it directly.

Zavzpret, a commonly utilized treatment for migraines, will be sold directly to patients at a 50% discount.
